Technology

ExCulture is developing an animal-free approach to produce heparin material from bio-based secondary feedstocks.

Our process is designed to convert biowaste-derived input streams into crude extracellular matrix material containing sulfated glycosaminoglycans, including an heparin alternative. Through downstream processing, this material can be further purified into a defined, high-purity product.

Bio-based, abundant input streams

We work with highly abundant secondary feedstocks as a starting point for producing complex biopharmaceutical materials such as heparin and sulfated glycosaminoglycans without animal-derived sources.

Direct processing approach

Our approach focuses on processing and converting these secondary feedstocks into a crude cell-free starting matrix for heparin and sulfated glycosaminoglycans extraction.

Toward purified material

Our downstream process extracts high-purity heparin and sulfated glycosaminoglycans from the cell-free matrix for cosmetics, MedTech and pharmaceutical formulation.
